ALEXIS GORODINE is an internationally known artist who transforms ordinary and recognizable iconography into evocative forms and mysterious signals in his prints, paintings, and collages.
Alexis’ work is deceptively simple. His subjects exist as basic outlines and evoke an almost “cave painting” quality. However, by using pared down forms, Alexis opens up a world of meaning to his viewers.
He uses the alphabet to mystify us and his titles draw us into his worldview, with more than a little curiosity. From the fanciful to the political, there are multitudes of meanings swimming in the beautiful, fluid marks around silhouetted figures. His work also addresses some of the most basic things we encounter: turtle, chicken, bridge, brain—and opens us up to their secrets, whatever they may be.
